Read over the attached problem and provide a detailed description as to why "Bessie" lives and Bethel dies.  You may use all of our notes as well as the internet to help you research the reason.

Problem: One day in a field....

SUBMIT YOU HANDWRITTEN (ON TABLET) ASSIGNMENT TO THE SUBMISSION CONFERENCE BY THE CONCLUSION OF CLASS.  Every student must have their own solution and the assignment MUST be submitted before the class ends (i.e. by the time stamp on First Class).
Subject: 11C - Bessie vs. Bethel: Your Name

Hint for Problem: Lightning Safety for Hikers

Complete your HANDWRITTEN (on tablet): One day in a field... problem BY THE END OF CLASS.

Make sure that you carefully justify your reasoning using relevant theories discussed in class!

Electromagnet Challenge Lab- PLANNING CLASS

Assemble in groups (someone that you have not worked with before) for this exercise. Groups of three are not allowed, but those completing this challenge as a "single" will receive a bonus if they win the competition.

READ THIS OUTLINE CAREFULLY.

You will have the class to Plan and develop the schematic for your electromagnet (to be built and tested next week).  Each group MUST complete a group Planning Sheet attached to an email to the Grade 11 submitted work conference BY THE END OF CLASS.  Any special materials will need to be requested on this sheet and Mr. Inglis will let you know if he can get them for you. Feel free, however, to bring in whatever materials you would like on our build day.

Email Subject: 11C EM Planning Sheet

MAKE SURE THAT YOU RESEARCH AND PLAN YOUR MAGNET CAREFULLY.  YOUR MARK IS BASED ON HOW MUCH MASS THE MAGNET WILL LIFT, BUT POOR PLANNING SHEETS / OUTLINED MAGNETS THAT DO NOT MATCH YOUR PLAN MAY RESULT IN A PENALTY!

Explain why the falling magnet produced the trace that it did by addressing the following questions:
Why did the current switch direction?
Why were the peaks different "absolute" values?
What did the area's under the curve represent (i.e. units) and why are they exactly the same absolute value?
