Sifton House Councils
/ Associations
House
councils have been established to address the many facets of house life.
In each situation students will be given an opportunity to have an active
role in the decision making in the house ranging from social / cultural
events to discipline issues. Below is a list detailing the purpose /
rationale behind each association and the members of the house who are
involved.

Peer
Mediation
(Student Requested)
An
extension of the Macdonald House Peer Mediation Sessions, this assembly
recognizes that students generally feel more comfortable discussing issues
with other students rather than solely with the Housemasters. This
meeting can be called by anyone in the house who would like to discuss any
issue with other members of the House by simply e-mailing the Housemaster
or the Head of House. It will then be the Housemaster’s responsibility to
coordinate the meeting by contacting all parties involved and setting a
meeting time. In the roles of peer mediators, the other students will
listen to the individual’s problem or concern and offer possible
solutions. Once complete, the results and / or any raised concerns will
be discussed by the moderator of the meeting (the Head / Assistant of
House involved) with the Housemasters. On some occasions, the session can
also include a Housemaster, but ONLY if his presence is recommended by all
parties concerned.
Peer Mediation
(Housemaster Requested)
A Peer
Mediation session can also be requested by the Housemaster to address a
consistent discipline issue that may be occurring in the house. In this
situation, the panel will also serve as impartial representatives of the
House to the student in question providing a unbiased opinion of the
situation.
Private Meeting
In some
situations the student may prefer to talk with the Housemaster(s) alone.
In this situation all that is required is an e-mail to set up the meeting
or the students dropping by the office. Both Housemasters have an open
door policy for these types of meetings.

Town Hall
Events
Town hall events will be conducted periodically to give students of each
grade the chance to express their individual concerns in an open forum
either anonymously (by writing) or verbally to the entire group. This
structure allows the students the opportunity to address a given topic and
have input on how to address it. Sometimes these events may involve only
certain collections of students (i.e. New Boys) recognizing that there may
be completely different issues among the same grade.

Sifton
Administrative Council
This group will meet once a month to discuss administrative issues and
concerns with the house pertaining to house policies, rules and code’s of
conduct. During these times, the Housemaster will report any amendments
to policies and address any concerns that have been brought up by the Head
of House and/or students in the house.
