Elements of a Short Story

Read the hyperlinked document "Elements of a Short Story" (individually)

Partner Story Creation: Arrange yourselves in groups of 3. You will work together to create a short story. The members will take turns writing for one minute at a time. Each partner has four opportunities to contribute to the story for a total of twelve minutes. Make sure that you are reading over the shoulder of your partners while they are writing to ensure that your story will flow from one writer to the next.

Evaluation of stories based on the Elements of a Short Story: After each story is read aloud, the class will critique the story while considering plot, development and actions of characters, and the setting.

*Ensure that your diagnostic writing assignment from last day has been sent to the class conference.

 

Read The Lottery and answer the questions at the end of the document.

Super Hero Short Story Assignment

Create the image of your super hero using heromachine.com

Create your super hero and complete the outline questions that are incorporated into the assignment. Mr. Ramon will conduct interviews with each of you during next class to discuss your hero and the direction that you intend to take your story.

Share your hero with your partner: You have one minute to summarize your super hero and his story with your partner. Your partner will ask clarification questions, offer constructive criticism, and provide feedback for the following minute. Once both of those tasks are complete, switch positions and review your partner's character.
