Mr. Ludwig
H.B.Comm, B.Ed, MHK, PTS

While acting as the Assistant to the Athletic Director in 2004-05, Mr. Ludwig was extremely impressed by the quality of the staff and students at St. Andrew's College.  As a result, he jumped at the opportunity to return for the 2006-07 school year as a faculty member in the Upper School.  Mr. Ludwig will be teaching a full course load in Business Studies during his fourth year at St. Andrew's - a section combination featuring BBI2O (Introduction to Business), IDC3O (McEwen Leadership Fundamentals), and BOH4M (Business Leadership: Management Fundamentals).

During the 2005-06 school year, Mr. Ludwig completed his B. Ed at Brock University.  Prior to pursuing his teacher education, he obtained his B. Comm (Honours) degree in Sports Administration from Laurentian University, and his Master of Human Kinetics (MHK) in Sports Management from the University of Windsor.  He looks forward to drawing on his variety of teaching and employment experiences within the sports management industry to reach all students with an engaging and applicable teaching style.

Mr. Ludwig's teaching experiences include time within the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board and Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario.  His work terms in the world of business include efforts related to the World Championships in Athletics, Canadian Track and Field Championships, World Triathlon Championships, Royal Bank of Canada, and Grand Bend Fitness Centre.

Mr. Ludwig's coaching efforts this year include coaching 1st Basketball and directing the Sport Conditioning and Athletic Training program for the school's athletes.  Coach Ludwig brings an intensity and passion to his coaching duties that originate from his close connections to sport and academics throughout his life, and he looks forward to helping build a beneficial and successful athletics program at St. Andrew's.  He has coached 5 seasons of 1st team basketball (S.D.H.S., Ridley College, St. Andrew's College), and this year will once again turn his attention towards the varsity program at St. Andrew's.  Playing hard, playing smart, and playing together will be the primary focus of the 1st team.  Coach Ludwig is currently a NCCP Level II certified basketball coach, and during his playing days participated at the varsity level at Laurentian University and the University of Windsor.  Having earned Academic All-Canadian status three times during his playing career, the importance of balancing academics and athletics is stressed by Coach Ludwig and a focus that he hopes to instil in all of his players.

In addition to his basketball coaching duties, Coach Ludwig also acts as the campus Sports Conditioning Specialist throughout the year at St. Andrew’s.  He has received both his Personal Training Specialist and Sports Conditioning Specialist certifications, and looks forward to using his skills and knowledge to help the athletes at St. Andrew’s reach their full athletic potential.  Through the implementation of individual strength and fitness programs, as well as group sports conditioning training sessions, athletes at St. Andrew’s receive specialized instruction to assist them in the design and structure of workout programs, core fitness development, as well as improving secondary fitness characteristics such as balance, stability, core strength, agility, quickness, speed, and power.  Coach Ludwig is convinced that the extra commitment put forth by the athletes at St. Andrew’s towards sports conditioning will pay dividends on the playing field, and hopes that the conditioning program at St. Andrew’s can continue to grow in the years to come.

From a co-curricular perspective, Mr. Ludwig currently acts as the Course Director for the McEwen Leadership Program, a new initiative launched in 2007-08 to provide leadership opportunities for students at St. Andrew's.
At St. Andrew’s, there is definitely a common belief that leadership skills can be nurtured and developed by providing students with many opportunities to act as leaders throughout their academic career.  As a result, the development of strong leadership skills among the students at St. Andrew’s has recently become a prominent area of focus within the academic structure of the Business Studies program.  Through the design and implementation of the McEwen Leadership Program, St. Andrew’s is now poised to educate a future generation of leaders and successful St. Andrew’s alumni.

When he is not in the classroom or on the playing fields (very rarely!), Mr. Ludwig enjoys spending most of his time playing sports himself.  He is an avid participant in basketball, snowboarding, ultimate frisbee, soccer, golf, tennis, and weight lifting; and will participate in literally any sport if invited!  When not playing sports, he enjoys relaxing by playing the guitar, or blowing off steam by playing the drums!
