AIM
The aim of the Canadian
Cadet Scholarship Fund (CCSF) is to encourage cadets to enter into full-time
post-secondary studies through the provision of grants.
GENERAL
The Canadian Cadet Scholarship
Fund will provide an annual $1,000 grant per corps/squadron to a cadet
attending a post-secondary institution in the upcoming school year.
DEFINITIONS
For the purpose of this
Annex post-secondary institution means any recognized post-secondary institution
within a province or territory, and full time student means a student in
full time attendance as defined by the applicable institution.
In order to be eligible for
a grant, a potential recipient must be a cadet during the current corps/squadron
training year (i.e. at the time of application)
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
The form at Appendix
1 (as a Word document file) shall be submitted to the Commanding Officer
no later than 1 March. The completed application
may NOT be sent as an attachment to an e-mail.
SELECTION PROCESS
In order to insure an impartial
and transparent process, the Commanding Officer shall convene a selection
board consisting of:
-
a member of the unit staff (excluding
the Commanding Officer);
-
a representative of the league/sponsor;
and
-
a person independent of the
unit.
Board members shall not be related
to any applicant.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The recipient of the grant
shall be chosen from eligible candidates on the following basis:
a. cadet performance
(1) cadet records;
and
(2) CO’s comments
b. academic performance:
(1) academic records;
and
(2) principal’s comments:
and
c. interview with the applicant.
The selection board will develop
a merit list of applicants and submit it to the Commanding Officer.
The Commanding Officer shall
forward the merit list to the Area Cadet Officer no later than April
1st. Where no applications have been received, the Area Cadet Officer
must be advised. A copy of the merit list and the applicant files shall
be retained at the corps/squadron for a period of one year.
DISBURSEMENT OF
FUNDS
Upon receipt of the recipient’s
confirmation of acceptance from the applicable institution, the Commanding
Officer shall forward it to the Area Cadet Officer. No funds shall be disbursed
until confirmation of acceptance has been received.
The Area Cadet Officer shall
compile a list of all recipients and forward it to the Region Cadet HQ
for payment to the individuals
RE-ALLOCATION
OF FUNDS
Any non-allocated grants
will be disbursed to other qualified applicants on a fair and equitable
basis, at the discretion of the Regional Cadet Officer.
