The
Pipes and Drums
At St. Andrew's
College
Introduction
The
Pipes and Drum are an integral part of the St. Andrew's College Highland Cadet
Corps and one of it's best known elements. The primary responsibility of the
Pipe Band is to provide music for the Battalion when it is on the march. In this
role the Band will be front and centre at the Annual Church Parade, the
Headmaster's Parade and the Annual Inspection.
The Band also provides a
particularly challenging performance when they play (on ice!) for the opening of
the MacPherson Hockey Tournament hosted annually by SAC. They
represent the Corps and school at a variety of events such as the Aurora Santa
Claus Parade and have competed in the Area and Regional Cadet Band Competitions.
Individual
pipers are called upon for a variety of events during the school year such as
Remembrance Day, the St. Andrew's Day Dinner and for the Annual Cadet
Officers' and Senior NCOs' Mess Dinner.
Instruction on the pipes
and drums can start as early as Grade 6, 7 or 8 and when musicians have reached
a certain level of proficiency, they are invited to join the Senior Band.
