During the Second World War
he served as a Colonel with the Canadian Army Medical Corps where he was
stationed at the Canadian Military Headquarters in England and assisted
with the planning of medical arrangements for the D-Day invasion of France.
He was created an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1945 (see
below.)
"Colonel Montgomery arrived in the United Kingdom in July 1941 where he has since been employed as Consultant in Medicine at Canadian Military Headquarters. He has carried out his duties with outstanding ability, which was particularly noticeable during the planning of medical arrangements for the invasion of France. It was in no small measure due to this officer's efforts that medical units were able to function smoothly at this most critical period."
