Captain Roy C. Clark attended St. Andrew's College in 1901.

He arrived in France in July 1915 as a Corporal in the Machine Gun Corps and was promoted to Sergeant in February 1916. Clark was commissioned in July 1916, and joined the 1st Motorized Machine Gun Brigade in March 1917. He was later promoted to Captain and discharged in April 1919.

"For conspicuous gallantry in action. He handled his detachment of Armoured Cars with the greatest boldness and destroyed many enemy machine-gun groups, until he was severely wounded. It was chiefly owing to his determined conduct that the Cavalry were so well supported and enabled to accomplish their extensive operations."
