He was working in fire insurance when he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on September 23, 1914 at Valcartier, Quebec at the age of 21. At that time he claimed previous service (3 1/2 years) with the 6th D.C.O. Rifles (Vancouver, BC). He was serving in the 7th Battalion (British Columbia Regiment) at the time of his death. He was probably the fourth Andrean to die in WWI when he was killed in action on June 21st, 1915, aged 22 and is buried in Beuvry Communal Cemetery, France (Grave Reference: 52.)
