Captain George W.
Dr. George William Anderson was born 1 November 1885 and was one of St. Andrew’s original students, arriving in 1899 and staying through Easter 1903. He was later educated at the University of Toronto where he received his BA in 1907and MD two years later.
On November 17, 1914 he enlisted in the CEF as a Private in the 19th Infantry battalion. The following year he transferred to the Royal Army Medical Corps where he served as a Surgeon until returning to Canada in 1917. On 11 December he reenlisted with the Canadian Army Medical Corps and served with the rank of Captain.
As a civilian once he more the joined the staff of the Toronto Juvenile Court as its first full-time psychiatrist; in fact he was the first psychiatrist to hold such a position in all of Canada. His talent in the field was recognized in 1926 when he was awarded a 6-month scholarship by the Rockefeller Foundation. In his spare time he was a keen yachtsman and avid golfer. He died in Toronto on January 14, 1948.
