Bruce Walter Alspach, MD
Bruce Alspach was born in Buffalo on February 3 1922 and came to St. Andrew’s with his brother Philip in the 1930s. In his senior year, 1940, Bruce was elected Head Prefect. After high school, Bruce enrolled at Tulane studying medicine and graduated in 1946. After completing his internship in New Orleans he began his military service as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps. He spent two years on active duty, serving in California at the army’s Lompoc correctional facility. In 1949 he continued with his postgraduate training at Bellevue psychiatric hospital in New York. Bruce obtained his license to practice medicine and hung out his shingle in Miami in 1952 and has remained in practice there for over 50 years now. In 1969 he accepted the position of clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Miami.
